Chinese filmmaker Zhang Jizhong (C), his wife Du Xinglin (second from L), and their children.

According to Yangcheng Evening NewsFan made these allegations on social media on June 5, claiming that Zhang had been living with Du in the U.S. before their divorce in 2016. Fan said she became aware of the asset transfer but remained silent as she lacked evidence. However, she spoke out after Zhang and Du filed a lawsuit against her, demanding 300,000 yuan due to a dispute that has persisted since 2016.

Fan also revealed that three months after their separation, Zhang married Du. For nearly a decade, Fan has wanted no further involvement with “these two dreadful people.”

In response to Fan’s accusations, Zhang posted a series of family photos on his social media, showing himself with his wife and four children. He stated that despite the nine years since their divorce, Fan has continued to spread lies to harm his current family. Zhang refused to comment on the legal dispute but explained that he and Fan had reached a divorce agreement, which he was simply following.

“For the past nine years, she has used every tactic to continuously harm us. I remained silent and endured, but one must know when to stand up for what’s right,” Zhang wrote “In my first marriage, I was not happy. It was only when I held Xinglin’s hand that I experienced the warmth of family.”

The director added that he would no longer tolerate Fan’s actions and would do whatever it takes to protect his family.

Zhang, 74, married Du, 43, in 2017. Their union has sparked controversy due to their age gap, with some comparing their relationship to that of a grandfather and granddaughter. They have three children—aged five, four, and one, respectively. Du also has a child from a previous relationship.

On Douyin (the Chinese version of TikTok), Du shared that she and Zhang divide household responsibilities and take care of their children together. Zhang, known for waking up early to exercise, spends his free time with his wife and kids, including changing diapers, putting their youngest daughter to sleep, and driving their older children to school while assisting with their education. He frequently shares videos of his daily life and parenting tips on social media.

Zhang is renowned for his film adaptations of the classic wuxia novels by the acclaimed Chinese author Jin Yong, including “The Smiling, Proud Wanderer,” “The Legend of the Condor Heroes,” “Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils,” “The Return of the Condor Heroes,” “Heavenly Sword and Dragon Saber,” and “The Deer and the Cauldron.”

In addition to his directorial achievements, Zhang has also played supporting roles in several of these adaptations.
