IMD Heavy Rain Alert: Mumbai may once again witness the havoc of rain. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday warned that heavy to very heavy rains may occur during this period. The monsoons have slowed down in Mumbai for the past few days, but now the clouds have become active again. The reason for this is oligo cyclonic activities and weak southwest monsoon winds, which are affecting the region.
IMD scientist Sushma Nair told news agency ANI, “Yellow alert is in force for the next 24 hours. The red alert that was issued earlier was only for 2-3 hours of heavy rain. Since that rain has now reduced, it was considered a nowcast warning.”

Monsoon arrived in Mumbai ahead of schedule.
This year, the monsoon arrived in Mumbai before its scheduled time, on May 26 itself. The early arrival of the monsoon brought relief to the people from the scorching heat. Earlier this week, several parts of Mumbai received heavy rainfall. On Friday, too, different parts of the city recorded rainfall, with the Santacruz area receiving 14 mm of rain. So far, the ongoing monsoon has given Mumbai moderate rainfall. In the last six days, Colaba has recorded 30 mm of rain and Santacruz 47.1 mm. Though the temperature was slightly below normal, the weather felt humid and hot due to the high humidity in the air.
