Have you ever noticed that when the air hostess or army is admitted, the time for their height measured is mostly “evening”? This is not a coincidence but a scientific reason. Our height varies a bit at different times of the day. Let’s understand this interesting fact.
Actually, our spine shrinks slightly due to the effect of day -long work and gravity. When the body relaxes while waking up in the morning, there is a slight elaboration in the spine and the height is measured a little more.
Why is there a difference in the height of the morning and evening?
In the morning, when we wake up from sleep, then the space between our intervertebral disc, the spine, is slightly spread. This makes the body look a little longer. As the day passes, gravity means gravity affects the body and these discs start to suppress, which can make a difference of 1 to 1.5 cm in the height.
Doctors and fitness experts also confirm that it is common to make a slight difference between morning and evening height. This is the reason that where accurate height means important, it is considered right to measure the afternoon or evening time.
Why is this rule of height test in Air Hostess and Army?
Aviation industry and defense forces have a fixed criteria of height. For example, the minimum height for air hostess is 155 cm and separate height of men and women for recruitment in the army is fixed.
If the height is measured in the morning, it can come artificially and qualify the candidate. But the test is done in the evening to know the real and permanent height. This can ensure fair chances and correct selection.
