If your IRCTC account is not linked to your Aadhar card, you will not be able to book a Tatkal ticket soon. Indian Railways has implemented this new rule so that train ticket booking can be made transparent and fake accounts can be avoided.

These IRCTC accounts can be closed!

IRCTC has said that such accounts that are not verified with Aadhar (Aadhaar Verification IRCTC) can be closed. That is, if you do not link it with Aadhar, then your IRCTC account can be deactivated.

Why is Aadhar verification necessary?

Every day about 2.25 lakh people book Tatkal tickets online (Tatkal Ticket Booking Online). But out of 13 crore active users of IRCTC, only 1.2 crore users' accounts are linked to Aadhar. Railways believes that most of the fake bookings are done from these accounts without verification. Therefore, the railways have started investigating 20 lakh accounts considering them suspicious.

Only Aadhaar-linked users will get a chance in the first 10 minutes of booking.

The railways have also decided that in the first 10 minutes of Tatkal ticket booking (Tatkal Ticket Booking Time), only those people will be able to book tickets whose IRCTC account is linked to Aadhaar (IRCTC Account Aadhaar Verification). Even authorized agents will not be able to book tickets at this time.

Shocking figures for Tatkal ticket booking

Recent figures have shown that from May 24 to June 2, out of 1.08 lakh Tatkal tickets of AC class, 5,615 tickets were booked in the first minute and 22,827 tickets in the second minute. A total of 67,159 tickets i.e. 62.5% tickets were booked in the first 10 minutes. The remaining 37.5 percent of tickets were sold 10 minutes before the chart was prepared, while 3.01 percent of tickets were booked 10 hours after the window opened.

On average, 1.18 lakh tickets are booked daily in the non-AC class. Of these, 4 percent were booked in the first minute and 17.5 percent in the second minute. Of these, 66.4% of tickets are booked in the first 10 minutes, and 84% of tickets in the first hour. About 12 percent of tickets were also booked after 8 to 10 hours.

Soon Aadhaar may be required for counter tickets as well.

According to sources, in the coming time, Aadhaar verification may be necessary even for taking Tatkal tickets from the counter. This means now identity will have to be confirmed everywhere. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has said that soon only real passengers will be given confirmed train tickets through e-Aadhaar verification.
