Television actor Shoaib Ibrahim has provided a hopeful update on the health of his wife, actress Dipika Kakar, who recently underwent a major surgery following her diagnosis with stage 2 liver cancer. Dipika, known for her role in 'Sasural Simar Ka', was operated on June 3 in a 14-hour-long procedure.
Dipika Kakar’s health update post cancer surgery
In a update shared through his YouTube vlog on Friday, Shoaib revealed that Dipika has been moved out of the ICU after spending three days there. “Tomorrow is Eid Al Adha and today on such an auspicious day Dipika is out of the ICU. I am really grateful that she is out of the ICU and she is with us,” he said, adding that her condition has been steadily improving. Around the evening, doctors shifted her to a regular room where she will continue her recovery, given the surgery's complexity.
Shoaib shared the anxiety the family felt during the lengthy operation that began at 8:30 am and ended at 11:30 pm. “We all were tensed as doctors had mentioned it would be a long surgery. At 6-7 pm, we panicked as there was no update from the OT, which is normal for such serious surgeries. Thankfully, the doctors assured me that no updates usually mean everything is going well,” he explained.
During the surgery, doctors discovered and removed a gallbladder stone and excised a small portion of Dipika’s liver to remove the cancerous tumour. Shoaib noted, “The doctors mentioned that the liver is a self-restorative organ so it shall heal itself with time. It is not something to be stressed about, but we have to stay cautious and take good care.”
Dipika Kakar diagnosed with stage 2 liver cancer
Dipika first revealed her battle with stage 2 liver cancer last month through an emotional Instagram post. After experiencing severe stomach pain, doctors detected a tumour “the size of a tennis ball” in her liver, which was later confirmed to be cancerous.
Since then, Shoaib has been openly sharing updates on her condition with fans and well-wishers. He described this time as “the toughest phase” of their lives but expressed hope for recovery. “Alhamdulillah, by the grace of Allah, the scan report came out clear. The virus or its cells have not spread anywhere else in the body. Whatever is there is confined to the tumour, and once the tumour is surgically removed, Inshallah, things will get better,” he said.
