Within the world of Bollywood’s glam and fleeting fame, it can get tough to walk the journey alone. Recently, actress Wamiqa Gabbi shared insights on her friendships and connections within the industry. She shared her desire to consciously choose to nurture her relationships with deliberate care, intention, and time. Gabbi was recently seen alongside Rajkummar Rao in the drama-comedy ‘ Bhool Chuk Maaf ’, garnering her with love and critical acclaim.
Building authentic bonds
In an interview with Siddharth Kanan, Wamiqa Gabbi articulated her philosophy on friendships. Sharing her views on friendship, she said, "I have very friendly friendships with a lot of people," she stated, "but very few real friends. Because dosti karne mein waqt lagta hai (it takes time to form a friendship).”
For Gabbi, the essence of true friendship transcends superficial gestures like frequent social media appearances or sharing numerous inside jokes over brunch. It's about a deeper, unspoken presence. She defined a real friend as "someone you call the moment something amazing happens… and also the person you call when you’re breaking inside." She added, "When both those calls go to the same person — that’s dosti."
Wamiqa went on to share that she still confides in the hometown friends who remain her closest confidants. "I think my real friends are still the ones from Chandigarh. They’ve been around for 8 to 12 years now." While her circle in Mumbai is more intimate, these friendships also boast considerable longevity. "The ones I’m close to here — those friendships are about ten years old too. And slowly, slowly, even in the industry, I’m building a few real bonds. It takes time, but it’s worth it."
