
Suspense crime, Digital Desk : In the stock market, Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) emerged as an important domestic buyer during the March 2025 quarter, despite foreign investors continuing to offload stocks. Along with mutual funds and retail investors, LIC claimed more than ₹47,000 crores in equities which significantly bolstered the market.
LIC’s Equity Activity Overview
Currently, LIC has a stake in 351 companies. It bought stakes in 105 companies, adding 13 new constituents. It dismissed stakes in 86 companies where it completely exited or reduced holdings below 1% stock in 15.
Hero MotoCorp: By pumping ₹4,968 crore, LIC boosted their stake from 5.53% to 11.84%.
Reliance Industries: Acquired shares worth ₹3,675 crore thus adding to their stake from 6.52% to 6.74%.
Larsen & Toubro: Invested ₹2,975 crore.
Asian Paints: Invested ₹2,361 crore.
Bajaj car: Invested ₹1,983 crore.
Hindustan Unilever: Invested ₹2,466 crore.

New Additions to the Portfolio
New entries into the portfolio consist of 13 new constituents such as:
IRFC: Acquired 1.05% stake for ₹1,815 crore.
Jindal Stainless: ₹640 crore purchases 1.24% stake.
KPIT Technologies: 1.32% stake for ₹485 crore.
Punjab & Sind Bank, BLS International, JTL Industries, Enviro Infra Engineers, among others are also incorporated.
ITC Hotels (9.22% stake) issued shares worth ₹3,325 crore which was received by LIC after demerging from ITC Ltd.
Disposals and Decrease
ICICI Bank: Divested – LIC stake reduced to 6.8% from 7.14%, a sale of ₹1,987 crore.
Infosys: Sold stakes worth ₹1,652 crore, ownership now at 10.45%.
TCS: Stake cut to 4.63% after selling ₹1,625 crore.
Wipro: Divested to 2.67% after selling 1,234 crore.
Also reduced stake in: Pidilite Industries, Divi’s Laboratories, Coromandel International, Bajaj Finserv, JSW Energy, Bajaj Finance, HDFC Bank

As of Q4 FY25, LIC remains with 351 stocks, accumulating to roughly ₹15.18 lakh crore, a decrease of both in number of stocks and value, from the previously held 352 stocks and over ₹15.88 lakh crore in Q3.
Economic Overview in Q4 FY25
The Sensex and Nifty fell 0.9% and 0.5% respectively.
BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices fell by 10.6% and 15.5% respectively.
Net selling by foreign investors amounted to ₹1.18 lakh crore.
Domestic investors together with LIC purchased equities exceeding ₹1.86 lakh crore.
