News from EPFO: The retirement fund organisation EPFO gained 1.61 million net members in February, a 3.99 cent increase over the same month the previous year, according to the most recent payroll data that was made public on Monday. According to a release from the Labour Ministry, the Employees Provident Fund Organisation gained almost 7.39 lakh new clients in February 2025.
According to a statement from the Labour Ministry, the new customer was brought about by more job openings, more knowledge of employee perks, and effective communication initiatives by EPFO. According to the notification, the EPFO’s February 2025 preliminary payroll data revealed a net gain of 16.10 lakh members.
Compared to February 2024, the yearly review showed a 3.99 cent increase in net payroll increases, demonstrating a rise in employee benefits and job possibilities knowledge bolstered by EPFO’s successful outreach efforts.
The predominance of those in the 18–25 age range, who made up 4.27 lakh new members in February 2025, is a noteworthy feature of this data. A noteworthy 57.71 cent of all new customers gained throughout the month came from this group.
This is consistent with the earlier pattern, which indicates that young individuals, mostly those looking for their first job, make up the majority of those entering the organised workforce.
Furthermore, the net pay addition for individuals in the 18–25 age bracket in February 2025 was around 6.78 lakh, representing a 3.01 cent increase over February 2024.
According to the report, in February, almost 13.18 lakh members who had previously left EPFO returned. This number indicates a noteworthy yearly increase of 11.85% in comparison to February 2024.
These members are returning to the organisations that are under EPFO’s jurisdiction and changing positions. They have chosen to transfer their funds rather than accept a final settlement, which will ensure their long-term financial stability and expand their social security coverage.
According to the report, in February 2025, over 2.08 lakh new female subscribers joined EPFO. Compared to February 2024, this indicates a 1.26 cent annual increase.
Furthermore, the net increase in women’s income for the month was around 3.37 lakh, representing a noteworthy 9.23% year-over-year increase over February 2024. The rise in the number of female members suggests a larger trend towards a workforce that is more varied and inclusive.
The top five states/UTs accounted for around 59.75 cent of the net salary increases, with a total of 9.62 lakh net salary additions during the month, according to the state-by-state examination of payroll data. At 20.90 cent, Maharashtra topped all states in net compensation increases this month.
This month, the states and territories of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Gujarat, Haryana, Delhi, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh contributed over 5% of the total net pay.
Comparing industry-specific data month over month reveals a rise in net salary additions for workers in sectors like fish processing and vegetarian food preservation; societies, clubs, or associations; businesses that provide cleaning and sweeping services; businesses that manufacture, market, provide services, and use computers; and businesses connected to airlines.
About 41.72 cent of the overall net wage increases came from specialised services, which include security services, general contractors, labour suppliers, and other operations. Since updating personnel information and data collection are ongoing processes, the payroll data above is just tentative. Data used to be updated every month.
Payroll data up to September 2017 has been published by EPFO since April 2018.
To determine the net monthly payroll, the monthly payroll data considers the number of members who have opted out of EPFO coverage, the number of members who have chosen out and returned, and the number of members who joined EPFO for the first time using a valid Aadhaar Universal Account Number (UAN).
